Company History

Ames Shuel purchased H.P. Chemical in 1964. He had a vision to establish a janitorial company that would provide the best products available, the best services and support possible at competitive prices. HP began with two full-time and three part-time employees, while making deliveries with only one van. The company’s home was located in downtown Indianapolis, 20 West Washington Street.

Growth quickly ensued and the headquarters relocated to 4220 Saguaro Trail, Indianapolis. The company continued to expand their operations. In 1988, additional warehouse and office space was added to the original building (8,000 sq. ft. office space and 20,000 sq. ft. in warehouse area). With continued acquisitions in Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan, space was at a premium. In 2002, a huge expansion took place adding over 135,000 sq. ft. to the warehouse area and 20,000 sq. ft. to the offices, including a state-of-the-art conference center and a beautiful Will-Call area that represents our grassroots!

HP’s family of employees has reached over 400 individuals and is continuing to grow. Our dedicated employees are outstanding performers. They continue to improve our customer service through various corporate programs including ISO 9002 Registration, quarterly and annual recognition awards, participating in industry organizations (I.S.S.A., Network Services, etc.), and contributing annually to the homeless shelter located in Indianapolis.

HP has succeeded because we have kept our promises: the best products…the best services…competitive prices. Times have changed, but our commitment to customer service has not. Although our product and equipment offerings has been greatly increased, we are continuously researching new, innovative ideas that will increase our market share and continue to assist our customers with their cost-reduction programs. Our two newest product additions, Lighting and Air Filtration, will provide the necessary tools to get the job done, while maintaining the air quality for your employees.
